Abstract

Wheat Fusarium head blight (FHB) is caused mostly by F. graminearum (Schwabe). The pathogen survives on infected debris, infected seeds, and infested soil. This study was conducted to identify the integrated disease management host resistance, sowing date, and foliar fungicide applications against Fusarium Head Blight (FHB) in southeastern Bale, Ethiopia. The field experiment was conducted at two locations (Sinana and Agarfa) using a split-split plot design with three replications. The varieties were used as main plots and fungicides were used as sub-plots. Three factors were arranged in a split-plot design, namely, I: Varieties; Danda’a, Wane, Kakaba, and Shaki. ii: Sowing date: Two levels of sowing date were used: 10 days normal and 10 days late after normal planting were used. iii. Fungicide: Four levels of chemical fungicides namely; Fuzaro 400 SC, Natura 250 EC, Acanto plus 280 S, and untreated plot were used.
The study showed a significant difference among the treatments. The highest mean disease severity was found on Danda'a and Wane varieties, which were planted earlier due to high rainfall during anthesis. Fusaro 400 SC and Acanto plus showed better Fusarium had blight disease suppression. Based on disease data and economic analysis applying 0.5 l ha of Fusaro 400 SC, sowing date of August 20, and using Shaki and Kakaba could be recommended to FHB Management in southeastern Ethiopia
